Greetings to You all in the Name of Our Lord!
"Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham.
For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost," Luke 19, 9-10
The words of Prophet Isaiah to the ailing King Hezekiah is worth quoting,
" Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order, for you shall die; you shall
not recover," 2 Kings 20: 1b
Friends, with the fond memories of the time of happy yesterdays and the tomorrows of great hope, the legendary
'Onam' festival has gone past us. Now we are entering the new month encountering untimely rains causing havoc at many places of our State, with the warnings of impending climatic upheavals all over the world!
Let us review the highlights for the month of October with respect to the themes of the bible lessons of the Church. 'Almayarude Sakshyam' is the important topic of first Sunday (Matt.: 13- 16). The community of the faithful are to be the 'salt of the earth' , giving 'taste' to the rest of the world in their deals with them and are called to be the 'light of the world', with the onus of dispelling darkness of any kind. The true follower of Christ, giving hope to the desolate and sidelined, has to share his/her time and wealth with the needy, and partake in the healing ministry for the aged, sick and needy. The second Sunday theme involves the call to imbibe the diversities of God's creation, living in harmony with healthy relations and without any gender difference. That is the reason why our Church is in the forefront to induct the so far sidelined 'transgender' personalities to the mainstream of the society in general, and particularly in the Church. In the Acts of the Apostles ( 8:26-40), we can see the Spirit of God sending Apostle Philip to the Ethiopian eunuch, showing us God's concern and care for all His creation.
The third Sunday (October 15) theme pertains to 'Youth', with life based on the Word of God. The important problem confronting the youth of today is that they lack a trained and disciplined life based on the precepts of the Word. Such lives are liable to be fallen to the traps of the evils of the present world. The only answer to the problems of the youth and for that matter the larger society is that life has to be built on the precepts of the Word. Our Lord says Matt.7:24-27),"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock'. Therefore, to be clear, 'Love your God with all your hear, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength' to face all challenges of the world today.
The Family Day dedication, falls on the fourth Sunday, Oct. 22. The 'Holy Family of Nazreth' is the model family, which has to be our model and we all are supposed to follow it in our lives. The family is like a decorated tree, which is beautiful to look at. Likewise, each family has to give the experience of fruits of happiness and shade of love to all under its roof as model to others. Christ centered life with strong foundation of faith has to be nurtured and grown to blossom in the family. The family has to give shelter and healing to all who come to it for help and support. Sunday 29th October theme is the sacrament of the Holy Baptism. Fundamentally, our lives have sacramental values inherent in them and , therefore, for the sustenance of our spiritual well being, we all need the sacraments of Baptism and the Holy Communion, which perpetually remind us of our duty to participate in the sacramental existence and the being of Christ. Baptism is the sign of new life through Jesus Christ. It is a new birth, an enlightenment by Christ and a renewal by the Spirit.
Friends, let us be cleansed and revived by the Word of God, sharing Christ's body and blood through the Eucharist, to be the channels of the Good News of the Kingdom of God to the rest of world. Let us strive to be 'Good Samaritans' and 'good neighbours', giving 'taste' to our society, shedding light to our surroundings, while building a strong family based on Christian precepts and love.
