From the Vicar's Desk - Jan 2020 Message

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

" If it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down," Luke 13: 9

It gives me great pleasure in sending you all my Greetings and Best wishes for the New Year! Friends, as we bid farewell to the momentous year of 2019, and prepare to receive the New Yew Year (2020),let us have a retrospective glance for our failures and shortcomings, learn from them and look forward by abiding in Christ to bear much fruit(John 15:5 b). We have the fresh memories of celebrating Christmas, once again reminding us of God 's love of the world in sending His only begotten son in Nazreth, for the redemption of humanity. Therefore, let us become fruit bearing branches of Christ the Vine in the New year, and all through our lives for the Glory of God and the Extension of His Kingdom.

The Highlights of the month of January will be the convening of our Parish Ramapuram convention in the beginning of the month and the Kanjoor Convention at the end of the month. The 126th anniversary of the founding of our Parish will be celebrated as Idavaka Dinam on Sunday January 19, 2020, preceded by two days of Dhyana Yogangal in the evening in our Church. January 26, 2020, will be the great event of our Nation's Republic Day.

The Parichedhana Perunnal day falls on January1, reminding us of the gift of the renewal of God's Covenant relationship with His people. The biblical themes selected for the Sundays of the Month are as follows: The Shepherds visit the Redeemer Christ's birth place at the manger with the sign of the 'saddling clothes' (Jan 5) . The DHENAHA Perunnal (Christ's Snapanam) falls on Jan.6. Jan.12th is the de-addiction awareness day, which cautions us of the necessity of keeping our physical bodies to be holy, as our body is God's Temple. Jan. 19 reminds us of the necessity of the Rainbow Unity of the Christian Church which is the Body of Christ. January 26 is the India's Republic Day, which calls us Christians to participate in our nation building process and to live as loyal citizens with a motive to share our resources and abilities for the welfare our nation. Friends, as we look back how much do we have to thank God for the great things not only in our personal lives, but the our society as a whole.

An important exhortation for abiding in Christ is seen in I Peter 5:6-8, "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Discipline yourselves, keep alert.."

May God bless you and keep you through out the New Year!

Thank you
Yours John George Achen
