Chronology of Parish Events



1894 The Cheppad Mar Thoma Idavaka was Founded

M .E. 1076 Vruchigam 1 A meeting was held at Munjanattu House for funding the Cheppad Mar Thoma Parish general finance.

ME 1076 Vruchigam 8 Purchased 60 cents of land from Pallithekkethil, Sri. Chandi Thomas for the Church.

ME 1079 (1904) Since the earlier bamboo poles built church had fallen down due to heavy wind, the church was rebuilt with teak Poles

1906 November 29 The founder Vicar of the Parish Divya Sree Kannampallil Kathanar Passed away.

1908 The foundation stone of the present Church was laid by H. G. Titus - 1.

1918 The construction of the Church was restarted.

ME 1113 (1938) The consecration ceremony of the present church was held. The first welcome ceremony of 'The Sabha' for the two newly consecrated bishops was also held then in this Parish.

1114 - Meenam 27 (1939) The families of the Parish were grouped in to several 'Prayer Groups'.

1118 - Vruchigam 28 (1943) For the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the consecration of Rt. Rev. Abraham Mar Thoma Suffragan Metropolitan, a gift was given from the Parish.

1121—Chingam-1 (1946) Ten Families of the Idavaka Ramapuram Prarthanam Yogam formed a Parish and seceded from Cheppad Parish.

1124 Idavam-30 (1949) In place of the conventional 'Chengala', the Idavaka Sangham approved to buy a heavy church bell.

1944 May 13 Rev. M. S. Jacob was ordained as a Deacon

1944 July 13 Rev. M. S. Jacob ordained as Kassissa.

1951 October Rev. P. C. Joseph assumed charge as Purackel Achen’s assistant.

1952 January-1 It was decided to fix the Sunday worship timing at 8 AM and the Sunday school at 3 PM.

1952 Rev. N. M. Philipose assumed charge as the Vicar of the Parish

1952 Aug. 17 A portion of the Parish property was given to the Yuvajana Sakhyam for farming activites.

1952 December-1 The Idavaka Sangham was presided over by the Mar Thoma Metropolitan.

1953 January 7 Divyasree Purackel Zachariah Kassissa Passed away.

1953 April 23 Rev. K. V. Samuel was ordained as a Deacon

1953 May 3 The Idavaka Committee passed a resolution protesting against Sri. K. N. Daniel and some others for a filing a case against the Sabha, making the Metropolitan and others as the accused.

1953 Dec. 12 Rev. K. V. Samuel was ordained as Kassissa

1954 Rev. K.Mathai assumed charge as the vicar.

1954 Rt. Rev. Juhanon Mar Thoma Metropolitan presided over the Idavaka Sangham.

1957 May-1 Rev. T. O. Oommen assumed charge as the vicar

1959 May 10 Sri C. Daniel, Vazhithalackel, was appointed the sexton.

1960 Rev. V. T. Varghese assumed charge as the vicar.

1963 (1949) A Suvisesha Pariseelana class was held in the Parish, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Suvisesha Prasanga Sangham.

1965 Rev. P. C. John assumed charge as the vicar.

1967 Rev. V. A. George assumed charge as the vicar.

1968 Rev. M. E George assumed charge as the vicar.

1969 The celebrations of the Platinum Jubilee of the Parish were held. The Platinum Jubilee memorial Parish Hall foundation stone was laid by Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Athanasius.

1971 May 30 celebrated the Parish Sunday school Golden Jubilee.

1972 March 5 Started the "Sadhujana Vivaha Nidhi" in the Parish.

1972 Rev. K. T. Mathew assumed charge as the vicar.

1975 April 26 Consecrated the Platinum Jubilee Memorial Hall.

1975 Benches were made for use in the Church for the first time.

1976 May-1 Rev. C. J. Thomas assumed charge as the vicar.

1978 Koikkavadakkethil Smt. Annamma Samuel was elected General Secretary of the Mar Thoma Sevika Sangham.

1978 September 3 It was decided to hang the church bell at the Parish Hall Tower.

1978 October 1 The Idavaka Sangham approved the Committee's proposal to construct a common vault for the Parish.

1978 Nov. 18 Stitching classes were started under the Sevika Sangham.

1979 May 7 Thekkadeth Sri. Sunny Mathew was ordained as a Deacon.

1979 May 30 Deacon Sunny Mathew was ordained as Kassissa.

1981 Koikka Vadakkethil Smt. Annamma Samuel was elected as the Vice President of the Mar Thoma Sevika Sangham

1981 A Porch was constructed in front of the Church

1981 Purchased some chairs for the Parish Hall.

1982 May Rev. J. Varghese assumed charge as the vicar.

1983 June 28 Cheppad Parish donated Rs.10,000/- to the Harippad Development Centre as an interest free loan.

1984 The Parish held a condolence meeting on the demise of the late Indian Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi.

1985 The Parish celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Malankara Sabha Naveekaranam

1985 Re-started the functioning of the Golden Jubilee Memorial Library of the Sunday school.

1985 May Rev. Simon Behanan assumed charge as the vicar.

1986 March 2 8.15cents of farm land was purchased from Sri. V. V. Thomas, Velentethu, for constructing the Parsonage.

1986 April 27 the tomb fee was increased from Rs.400/- to Rs.1000/-

1986 18 tombs were constructed in the cemetery by the Parish.

1986 November 11 some of the trophies were stolen from the Church.

1986 Dec.25 The foundation stone of the Parsonage was laid.

1987 Prof. T. M. Joseph was elected to the Sabha Council.

1988 May 1 Rev. P. M. Abraham assumed charge as the vicar.

1988 June 18 The New Parsonage was consecrated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom.

1989 Kallelil Thundil Sri. P. Y. Mathew was selected for the seminary study.

1989 This Parish also started the Yuva Vakup introduced by the Sunday School Samajam.

1990 March 18 3 cents of land was given to the Ramapuram Parish for cemetery requirements.

1990 Prof. T. M. Joseph became a member of the Sabha Council for the second time.

1990 Poonthuruthiyil Sri. P. G. John became the 'Bhadrasana Council' member.

1991 May 1 Rev. T. S. Philip assumed charge as the vicar.

1991 August 31 Sri. Lalan Manjade became a member of the Yuvajana Sakhyam Central Commiittee and 'Yuvadeepam' Editorial Board.

1992 December Restarted the Christmas Carol visits to the houses in night to share the Christmas joy.

1992 December 13 Formation of the Parish Centenary Celebrations Committee.

1993 January 24 Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus inaugurated the Centenary celebrations and Rt. Rev. Dr. Yuyakkim Mar Coorilos laid the foundation stone of the New Madbhaha.

1993 May Sri. P. Daniel of Mercy Home filed a petition against the 'Bhadrasana Episcopa' and the Parish Priest, Rev. T. S. Philip, at Harippad Munciff Court, questioning the order number 489/93-94 against him.

1993 June 19 Kallelilthundiyil Sri. P. Y. Mathew was ordained at Kayamkulam Salem Mar Thoma Church as a Deacon.

1993 June 30 Deacon P. Y. Mathew was ordained as Kassissa.

1993 September 18 Mandalam Assembly members were elected under secret ballot.

1993 October Elected Prof. T. M. Joseph to the Sabha Council for the third time.

1993 October 29 Questioning the Mandalam Representative's election done in the Parish, Daivapurackel Sri. Varghese John and Mevilethu Sri. M. T. George filed a petition at Mavelikara Munciff Court, against the Metropolitan, Prof. T. M. Joseph and the Parish Priest.

1993 November 4 Questioning the Mandalam Representative's election done in the Parish, Daivapurackel Sri. Varghese John and Sri. Thomas Joseph Velentethu filed a case against the Metropolitan, Prof. T. M. Joseph and the Parish Priest at the Alapuzha Munciff Court.

1993 November 6 Sri. Lalan Manjade was elected the 'Bhadrasana Council' member.

1993 Rev. Sunny Mathew assumed charge as the Ranni-Nilackel Bhadrasana Secretary.

1993 Sri. Shaji K. David was elected as the Bhadrasana Yuvajan Sakyam Secretary.

1994 January 23 100th Parish Day.
